Killarney resident brings Profeti Della Quinta to SA

Profeti Della Quinta are coming to Johannesburg on 14 and 15 November.

An ensemble founded in the Galilee region of Israel performing music from 250 years before the classical music era are making their first trip to the Southern Hemisphere, performing locally on 14 and 15 November.

Profeti Della Quinta, translated to be ‘prophets of the perfect fifth’, specialise in music from the turn of the 17th century, producing a cappella music or accompanied by a lute or harpsichord.

Killarney resident and Redhill School teacher Adam Golding said he first heard their music when on tour in Berlin with the Lewandowski Chorale in 2016 and knew he had to bring them to South Africa.

“Their music blew my mind. Everyone in the room had their jaws on the floor and tears rolling down their faces. I have listened to top performers from around the world but nothing compares to them,” said Golding.

“I knew I had to bring them here because we just don’t get that quality of performance here in that style.”

Golding said that any lover of music will be blown away by their performance.

The group, who produced their first album in 2009, has toured extensively across the northern hemisphere but have never done a tour to the southern hemisphere or performed on the African continent before.

They will be performing in two concerts in Johannesburg. The first will be hosted at the Great Park Synagogue in Houghton Estate on 14 November at 8pm, performing The Songs of Soloman: Hebrew Music by Salomane Rossi and Elam Rotem, as well as a performance of music from the Italian Renaissance at St Georges Church in Parktown on 15 November at 8pm.

“This will be a unique opportunity for South African audiences as they showcase something we don’t hear often here. It is also an exciting opportunity for the group to come to a place where there is an early music culture,” he said.

Golding added that while they are an all-male group, the men have an amazing range and can sing soprano and alto parts as well.

If anyone is able to assist with transport, printing and promotions for the group, they should contact Golding, but, most of all, he wants to sell tickets to packed-out venues in Johannesburg.
