St Teresa’s learner gets international Rotary experience
Rotary Youth Exchange a wonderful experience for St Teresa’s learner
Chanelle began her adventure on 2 December and spent six weeks in Austria. Upon her arrival, she reunited with her exchange student, Franziska, at the airport. Her host family lived in a small town on the far west side of Austria, called Bregenz.
The exchange programme, which operates all around the world aims to encourage youths to get to know other cultures and traditions. The programme also encourages participants to study accomplishments and problems in other countries, and to act as ambassadors for their country and impart as much knowledge as possible about their home.
“It’s such a quaint, charming town where everyone knows each other and so coming from Johannesburg, you can imagine how foreign this was to me,” said Chanelle.
“I was extremely lucky because, for the first few weeks, it snowed heavily. I loved the snow so much that I didn’t even mind walking to school in it. The experience was outrageously amazing and I am eternally grateful that I was given the opportunity to do this exchange.”
