St Teresa’s hosts end of year party for Ububele students in Rosebank

Children of Ububele excitedly gather around Santa Claus at their year-end party.

St Teresa’s School hosted a year-end party for the girls of Ububele.

“Ububele, a St Teresa’s initiative, is a bridging school for disadvantaged schoolgirls started in 2015,” said Debbie de Koning, the marketing manager for the school.

“Our programme teaches maths, English and life skills and runs over the course of the year on a Saturday morning.”

The initiative aims to pay it forward to children of grades 1, 2 and 3 who attend less-resourced schools, and ensure that they have the opportunity to be accepted into Model C high schools.

Girls of Ububele and St Teresa’s gather on a Saturday for the Ububele initiative.

Girls of grades six to 12 and staff of the school donate their time to the disadvantaged schoolgirls each Saturday and not only help with school subjects but also assist with swimming, crafts and public speaking, among other things. The St Teresa’s girls can volunteer to get involved with various activities including acting as teaching assistants and getting involved with sports activities as well as getting involved with various fundraising efforts to help fund the programme.

“The Ububele learners celebrated their achievements at an end of year party and prize-giving. We are so proud of their achievements. We are again extremely grateful to Andiccio24 who donated pizza, cupcakes and drinks for the party and provided the jumping castle for the morning.”
