Westcliff is a suburb you need to live in

Westcliff is one of the suburbs in Johannesburg that, despite being very close to major main roads such as the M1 and Jan Smuts Avenue, still offers some tranquillity and calmness. Situated within close proximity to Parkview, Parktown and Houghton, Westcliff enjoys the same sedate environment as the aforementioned suburbs.
Westcliff’s location is ideal because it is close cool places such as Parkhurst for all the unique coffee shops and restaurants, Killarney Mall and Rosebank Mall. Also, the Johannesburg Zoo and Zoo Lake are just a few moments away. From the city centre, Westcliff is just 10 minutes away.
Zoo Lake is the ideal place for joggers, dog-walkers, skateboarders and anyone who is just looking to enjoy some fresh air. Zoo Lake is regarded by many as one of the safest outdoor spaces for picnics and spending time with friends. Visitors have the option of taking a stroll around the lake, which usually takes about an hour or two, depending on your route. The other option, if you are not in the mood for a morning walk, is to get in a canoe and row on the lake for a while. If you really want to make a morning of the outing, you can follow up your activities with some delicious meals served at the local restaurant.
One of the more popular events that take place at Zoo Lake is the ‘artists under the sun’ art market that takes place on the first weekend of every month.
Across the road is the famous Johannesburg Zoo, perfect for weekend family outings. It is reported that the Zoo is home to more than 2 070 animals and 365 different species – the perfect spot for animal lovers. Johannesburg Zoo is also known to be the only zoo in the country to have successfully bred Siberian tigers, known as the largest cats in the world.
If you are interested in learning more about the history of military aircraft, uniforms and war-related history, then the South African Museum of Military History right next door to the Zoo is the place you ought to visit.
Perhaps one of the most famous things Westcliff is known for, by visitors and residents, is the Westcliff steps. Also known as the ‘stairway to heaven’, it consists of 210 stone steps. The steps have become widely loved by walkers, joggers, and athletes alike. Westcliff being a place with so many huge trees, walking the steps in spring becomes somewhat of an experience as you walk under purple blooms.
The Westcliff Deli at the Four Seasons The Westcliff Hotel is within walking distance and there you can enjoy refreshments as you cool down after tackling the steps.
Westcliff is also home to some of the most sought-after Sir Herbert Baker homes and exquisite mansion-like properties that have incredible gardens with very large trees.
