The Four Seasons Hotel in Westcliff will host its second Run for Hope event on 9 September in order to raise money for the Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa.

The run, which is open to people of all ages, will feature a 5km and 7.8km option which will start and finish at the Hope School in Westcliff.

Linda Moore, the regional manager for the non-profit organisation said the run is held in September in order to commemorate Childhood Cancer Month.

“Last year we managed to raise about R70 000 and if we could get it to R150 000 this year that would just be so awesome,” said Moore.

However, Moore said there are currently about 400 runners registered compared to 600 runners who participated last year.

“The purpose is really to remember the children who have passed away from cancer and also to show support for children who are in hospital at the moment and can’t come.”

Moore added that there would also be an incredible prize available to the runner and non-runner who raised the most money. Runners and non-runners who donate more than R3 000 will automatically become legible to win a four-night stay at the Four Seasons Hotel in either Mauritius or the Seychelles.

Moore said the money raised from the run would contribute to the running costs of the house in Saxonwold which allows childhood cancer patients to stay there while they receive treatment at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital or the Wits University Donald Gordon Medical Centre.

Next Biosciences gives back to Choc

“It’s important to raise awareness because I think a lot of people don’t think that children get cancer. It’s a lovely day and a lot of people come dressed in gold which is the colour for Childhood Cancer Month.”
