Junior cricket is coming up again at Old Parktonian Sports Club, so get your bat, ball and gloves out and spend a few sessions in the net before games get underway.

Old Parks Junior Cricket chairperson, Duncan Craggs said boys and girls between the ages of five and 13 are invited to the opening practice at 8.30am on 16 September, and then to every practice the Saturday thereafter.

Warm-up matches will start at the end of September, and the first official matches of the season kick-off on 14 October.

The club boasts the coaching of Doug Neilson, who played for Transvaal from 1972 to 1983. The Transvaal team was known as the Mean Machine during the 70s and 80s, and dominated South African cricket with the likes of Jimmy Cook, Graeme Pollock, Clive Rice, Ray Jennings and Peter May. Old Parks certainly benefits from Neilson’s experience.
