Local joker to shine at Emperors Palace

Glen Biderman-Pam, a local comedian, will be performing in the upcoming Tumi and Friends.

Local up and coming Glen Biderman-Pam will be performing in the upcoming Tumi and Friends comedy show at Emperors Palace on 12 August.

The 28-year-old comedian studied drama at the University of Cape Town and now lives in Illovo. He grew tired of waiting for opportunities to arrive and decided to make his own by doing stand-up comedy.

Biderman-Pam said he had always been a fan of stand-up comedy and felt inspired by comedians such as Barry Hilton and Jerry Seinfeld.

“From a theatrical sense, I always admired the different characters that they could play. I had always thought I would love to be one of those guys,” he said.

Biderman-Pam performed his first stand-up comedy five years ago at Obviouzly Armchair in Cape Town with a lot of support from his friends and family. He added that the next few months were more difficult as he did not have as much support or direction, but he persevered.

Biderman-Pam noted that he loved observational comedy, where a comedian makes fun of certain situations but he has begun to talk more about his own experiences. “I usually talk more about what other people do but, as I’ve gone on, I’ve started to integrate it with more personal stories. No one has a story like you do, so it’s untouched material.”

Tumi Morake, who will be the headline act, does a weekly show called #WTFTumi with Biderman-Pam. The two met a few years ago while performing at the Grahamstown Arts Festival.

When Morake found out she was doing the show, she called her manager and ask that Biderman-Pam be included in the lineup.

“I’m really excited for the show, I’ve got a lot of new material and I’ve spent hours and hours tweaking it and polishing it,” concluded Biderman-Pam
