Caxton and Spar give back

Johannesburg Girls Preparatory School deputy principal, Dina Scalzullo, accepts the donation from Spar, presented by Marlene Gunter.

The Spar Group and Caxton’s Rosebank Killarney Gazette’s Drop off a Pair, Show you Care campaign, paid a visit to Johannesburg Girls Preparatory School in Berea to hand over many pairs of running shoes.

Since being directly involved in the Spar Women’s Race, Caxton decided to drive this initiative with Spar, wanting give back to those in need and to supply running shoes to those who wish to join the race this year.

Marlene Gunter of the Spar Group said, “It’s an opportunity and motivation for [schoolchildren] to get and remain fit, which is also essential when tackling school work.”

René Kalmer, an Olympic athlete, and Mapaseka Makhanya, an African and world championship participant, both of whom are Spar Women’s Race runners, joined the special day to encourage schoolchildren to compete in this year’s Spar Women’s Race, which invites women of all ages to participate in a 5km and 10km race.
